This Information Booklet for Foreign Nationals in the Czech Republic that we are presenting to you has been updated within the framework of the Foreign Nationals Integration Concept by the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic in collaboration with other ministries and nongovernmental non-profit organizations. This publication is primarily intended for foreign nationals from so-called third countries, i.e. non-EU member states, EEA and Switzerland. The publication may also be of service to all those who are in contact with foreigners and wish to deepen their knowledge regarding the respective issues.

Czech for Foreigners is the name of the new website (www.cestina-pro-cizince.cz and www.check-your-czech.com) which has been operated by the Research Institute of Education in Prague since June 2008 as commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The portal is thematically oriented mainly on the examination in Czech for foreigners. (As of January 2009, successful completion of the examination is a prerequisite for an alien to obtain a permit for permanent residence in the Czech Republic.)

From 1st July 2008 on, the Foreigners Police will not request from foreigners Extract from Police Record. It will arrange for it by itself.

NGO Counselling Centre for Citizenship / Civil and Human Rights (Poradna pro občanství / Občanská a lidská práva) offers its legal advice to foreigners individually every Wednesday from 10a.m. to 5p.m., as well as on the website www.diskriminace.cz in the section "Cizinci" (Foreigners).

In relation with the amendment of Law No. 326/1999 Col., on residence of foreigners in the Czech Republic, there will be obligatory exams for demonstration of Czech language competency for obtaining permanent residency in the Czech Republic starting 1 January 2009.
