Changing the purpose of stay
If you wish to stay in the territory for a purpose different from the one you have been granted permission for, you are obliged to apply for a new long term residence permit.
Exemption concerns persons who have been granted long term residence permit for the purpose of family reunification (see below) who can apply at the alien police office to be granted long term residence permission for a different purpose under following conditions.
- if you are over 18 years of age and you have been staying in the territory for 5 years, you are entitled to work or do business under privileged conditions, it means that you are not obliged to change existing purpose of your stay to be allowed to work;
- in case of divorce, if you have been staying in the territory at least 2 years at the date of divorce and your marriage was lasting 5 years at the very minimum;
- you are a survivor of a person who was granted permission for family reunification, you can apply for a different purpose of stay in case that you had been staying in the territory at least for 2 years without interruption at the date of death of your family member, or if death was caused by an occupational injury or an occupational disease. (This right expires after a lapse of 1 year from the date of death.)
If you have been granted residence permit for the purpose of protection (see below), you can apply for changing the purpose of your stay without meeting other requirements.
If you are a holder of visa for over 90 days for the purpose of tolerated stay, you are not allowed to apply for the change of the purpose of your stay.
