In relation with the amendment of Law No. 326/1999 Col., on residence of foreigners in the Czech Republic, there will be obligatory exams for demonstration of Czech language competency for obtaining permanent residency in the Czech Republic starting 1 January 2009.

The Czech language exam will be at official level A1. This level corresponds with 140 language course hours (up to 1 year of language course). The Czech language exam shall be provided by schools which have right to state language exams (only state language schools).
